Hello, I’m Malcolm.

I am a student and teacher of yoga and meditation from San Francisco.

I began meditating when I was seven years old.

At that age, I often felt anxious and depressed, and I found that turning my attention to my physicality offered me relief. After meditating, I felt calmer, more able to engage with my life. I strongly believe that meditation can provide many benefits, including relief from stress, emotional resilience, and improved concentration.

As my practice developed, I was drawn to Zen Buddhism. I read books and texts, attended longer meditation retreats, and studied ethics and their role in my life with my sangha. In 2017, I received the sixteen bodhisattva precepts and was ordained as a lay priest of Beginner’s Mind Temple (Hosshin-ji) in San Francisco by my teacher, Rev. Keiryu Liên Shutt.

I now practice and teach many types of meditation, including shikantaza, walking meditation, guided imagery, and meditations to cultivate loving-kindness or metta, sympathetic joy, and equanimity.

It is my desire to offer the benefits of meditation to all beings, especially those who suffer as a result of anxiety or depression. As such, my teaching is deeply rooted in Zen tradition while remaining accessible and comprehensible to all.

Meditation itself is an act of awakening, and I encourage you to join me for a sit.

I believe that yoga can benefit everybody.

In yoga, I have found an opportunity to connect with myself and explore my physical practice with curiosity and compassion for myself and all beings.

My classes are athletic but never rushed or hurried, allowing you to maintain a measured, even breath. My sequences are logical and balanced, so the poses build on one another and help you move with confidence. The pace and cueing will help you gain insight into your embodied practice and understand the subtleties of your own physicality.

My approach is inclusive and encouraging, and I am committed to helping students grow in their own practice. I will help you move and stretch, but I most want to convey the joy of deepening your connection to your own physicality.

I welcome yogis with loving intentions of all kinds, and, as a teacher, it is my goal to support all yogis' needs. I work with poses and foci that will challenge even seasoned yogis, while the modifications I offer allow beginners and those recovering from injury to participate fully.

I hope that you will build confidence in your ability to focus and breathe when things get tough - on and off the mat.
