Awaken your practice.

It’s ok to be a beginner, to not know, to be unsure.

It’s been said that this is the best place for the mind to rest when we’re learning. If we’re a beginner, we don’t have assumptions of what we know or don’t know. When we’re a beginner, we can treat ourselves with kindness and humor when we make a mistake.

It’s also ok to feel stuck, overwhelmed, doubtful, frustrated, or annoyed. I have felt all these ways and more while on the cushion.

There’s a lot of meditation information out there these days, and it can be hard to know where to start. Luckily for you, I’ve blundered my way through my fair share of meditation retreats and have encountered many dharmas.

So many people struggle with getting started finding the motivation to begin meditating. I know that what I offer can transform people’s practice, and it’s my goal that this program becomes a group practice, a program for cohorts to move into practice together.

For now, it’s an individual program. You and I will work one-on-one to develop a home meditation practice that you can stick with.

Ready to learn more about how Awaken your practice works?

Our initial 1-hour meeting includes

A brief meditation

A chance for us to sit together and enjoy our practice together.

The posture clinic

I will watch the way you sit, offer my posture guidance, and describe the ways that posture can have an impact on the longevity and comfort of one’s practice.

Collaborative assessment

We will co-create a strengths-based assessment of your current practice. What are things that support your practice? What inspires it?

Defining goals

I will use open-ended questioning to draw out and identify goals for our work together and suggest possible goals you may hold for yourself.

Identifying challenges

We will take a candid look at the things that hinder our practice. This is an ongoing practice, and I’ll show you my method for working with this topic myself.

Our plan of action

I will offer specific practices for you to try over the next week or two. Then, we will work on establishing a series of recurring meetings or otherwise determine how you’d like to proceed.

After our initial meeting, I’ll send you

A clear, visual summary

Based on our work together, I will design an infographic to summarize this session, guide your efforts, jog your memory, and keep you inspired.

A personalized meditation

I’ll create a recorded meditation to support your solo practice. I record on high-quality studio equipment and use excellent compression technology to ensure that your focus stays on my words and not on the recording.

Recommendations for you

A handpicked list of recommended reading, listening, or viewing, selected just for you.

Three things I will offer, and which I ask of you, during this work:

A container

Communication functions best when the conditions to engage in it are defined. We will create a container for this discussion and develop our communication agreements – the ways we would like to speak about this and with each other, and what our expectations are surrounding confidentiality and sensitive topics.

Vulnerability

This is personal stuff – goals, challenges, insights. My teaching comes from a deeply personal place. I will meet vulnerability with compassion and hope you will do the same.
